The story behind the name:

Perched in the cliffs of King Edward’s Bay beneath Tynemouth Priory lies the mysterious “Jingling Geordie’s Hole.” Once a carved lookout in the rock, it is said to have been the lair of a fearsome 17th-century smuggler or pirate. Legend tells that he lit false lanterns on the Black Middens to lure ships to wreck upon the rocks, plundering their cargo under cover of night. Even now, locals say the ghostly sound of his chains jingling can be heard along the windswept bay.
